The Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May puts a 10K through Holyrood Park alongside its marathon and half, and the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow closes the season in October with a 10K and a half marathon starting from George Square. Between them, the Women's 10K in Glasgow in July, the River Ness 10K on the Loch Ness Marathon weekend in Inverness and a long list of club races in Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling and Perth keep the diary full from spring to October.

What to expect from a Scottish 10k
Scottish road races are run under Scottish Athletics licences, so the measured courses and chip timing you need for an official PB are the norm at anything of size. The cities give you flat, fast loops along the Clyde, the Tay or the Forth; head north or west and the 10K becomes a trail or hill race, with Fort William and the Cairngorms offering some of the toughest 6.2 miles in Britain. The season is shorter than in England, with the bulk of the races between April and October and a handful of hardy winter events. Most weekends offer a 5K or a fun run on the same programme, and the race page shows every distance with a link to the official entry.
