The Drop - Edinburgh
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge based at Up and Running, 20 Queensferry Street, Edinburgh. Participants are transported blindfolded to an undisclosed drop location and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot without maps, GPS, compasses, or other navigation aids.
At registration participants surrender electronic devices, watches and navigational aids. They receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration; breaking the seal results in disqualification. Blindfolds may be replaced with blackout safety goggles if required.
Distances are measured as the crow flies, so actual routes will be significantly longer. Options on the day include:
- 15 miles - original longer format, more distance and decision-making
- 10 miles - shorter format with the same rules and restrictions
- 6 miles - strictly for non-locals only, entries may be checked
Rules include no GPS, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and maintaining emergency bag integrity. A live GPS tracking system is available as an optional safety feature for an additional fee; trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 applies. Entry is open to adults aged 18 and over on the event date. The next scheduled event is on 5 April 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
