Event overview

The Drop - Edinburgh is an urban navigation event on 5 April 2026 at Up and Running, 20 Queensferry Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4QW. Participants may enter solo or as a team and choose between these distances:

  • 10 Miles
  • 15 Miles

Entry prices are set at £45 for the 10-mile option and £53 for the 15-mile option. Entrants must be aged 18 or over on 05/04/2026. Distances are measured as the crow flies; the actual route taken may be longer.

Format and rules

At registration participants hand over electronic devices and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Participants are taken by bus to an undisclosed drop-off location wearing a blackout blindfold or an approved alternative. From the drop-off they must make their own way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, compasses, or outside help. Only maps provided by the organisers may be used. Breaking the seal on the emergency bag or using unauthorised navigation aids results in disqualification.

Safety and practical details

Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature; trackers are said to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and signal black spots. Trackers must be returned to staff after the event or a £175 replacement fee applies. Parking is available in the town centre; the nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the bus station about 5 minutes from the event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
