Event overview
The Drop - Edinburgh is an orienteering-style challenge event taking place on 05/04/2026 at Up and Running, 20 Queensferry Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4QW. Participants choose between the following distances:
- 15 miles
- 10 miles
Entries can be solo or as part of a team. The event is inspired by military know-how. On arrival, participants hand over electronic devices and are given a race number and an emergency bag. Competitors are driven to an undisclosed drop-off location while wearing a blackout blindfold or an agreed alternative, then must find their way back to the event centre. Distances are measured as the crow flies; actual travel distance may be longer.
Rules and logistics
Participants may not use personal GPS, unauthorised maps, compasses, or external help. Any device intended to record progress must be sealed in the provided emergency bag; breaking the seal results in disqualification. Organisers may provide maps at their discretion. Live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature; trackers are accurate to about 5 metres, perform better with a clear view of the sky, and must be returned at the end of the event or a £175 replacement fee applies. Parking is available in the town centre. The nearest railway station is about a 10 minute walk and the bus station about 5 minutes from event HQ.
