W. W. Gay Ortega River Run
The W. W. Gay Ortega River Run takes place at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, St. Mark’s Campus (4114 Oxford Avenue, just off Ortega Boulevard) on Saturday, February 20, 2027. The event is hosted by First Place Sports as a Grand Prix sanctioned race and has been held at the St. Mark’s Campus for the past 48 years. Proceeds benefit the school's financial aid program.
The event offers these distances:
- 1 mile Fun Run
- 5 miles Run / Walk
Registration rates for the 5-mile event increase by registration window: $30 in early November, rising in subsequent windows to $50 on race day. The 1-mile rate is $25 during the early window and $30 thereafter through race day. Shirts are provided for one-mile and five-mile entrants; guaranteed availability requires pickup at designated locations prior to race day. Unclaimed race packets at those locations will be moved to the race site for later pickup.
The 5-mile race uses My Laps Bib/Tag Champion Chip timing with chips affixed to the race bib; runners must cross timing mats at start and finish for a net time. The course runs over bridges and along tree-lined streets. A family-friendly street fair is located at the start/finish with giveaways and special guests. Dogs are not permitted on course; strollers must be placed at the end of the race. Street and lot parking is available in Ortega Village and nearby parks; please avoid blocking driveways or through traffic.
Awards include medals at the finish for registered One Mile and Five Mile finishers, overall and masters prizes, and age-group awards from 10 & under through 75 & over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
