W. W. Gay Ortega River Run
The W. W. Gay Ortega River Run is held at Episcopal School of Jacksonville, St. Mark’s Campus, at 4114 Oxford Avenue in Ortega. The event includes community races on a historic course that runs over bridges and along tree-lined streets. The race is hosted by First Place Sports as a Grand Prix sanctioned event and proceeds benefit the school’s financial aid program.
Distances
- 1 mile fun run
- 5 mile run and walk
Both races start and finish in front of the school. Dogs are not permitted on the course and strollers must be placed at the end of the race. Medals are given to the first 500 one-mile finishers and a collector medal to the first 1,000 five-mile finishers. Shirts are provided for one-mile and five-mile participants; shirts are available at designated pre-race pickup locations to guarantee availability.
The five-mile race uses My Laps Bib/Tag Champion Chip timing with chips affixed to race bibs; runners must cross timing mats at start and finish for a net time. Medals are awarded to all registered finishers as they cross the line, with awards for top three men and women overall, top masters, and top three in age groups ranging from 10 and under through 75 and over.
Pre-race packet pickup is available at designated 1st Place Sports locations and at the race site. Parking is available on surrounding streets, in Ortega Village lots, and in some nearby parks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
