Maine Marathon
The Maine Community Bank Maine Marathon is a road race event in Portland, Maine, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, 2026. Organized by the Maine Track Club, the event includes multiple race formats that start and finish along Baxter Boulevard at Portland’s Back Cove. The course features rolling hills, ocean views and fall foliage and runs along streets lined with spectators.
The event is presented as a nonprofit race with a long record of charitable giving. Since 1997 the marathon, half marathon and relay have raised more than $8,900,000 for charity. In 2025 the race donated $793,285 and directed 40% of revenue to charitable causes. Featured beneficiaries for 2026 include Nanna’s House, Day One, Camp No Limits and the Pine Tree Society.
The Maine Marathon is run entirely by volunteers; over 900 volunteers supported the 2025 event, and the race recruits several hundred volunteers each year to staff race weekend operations, medical support, packet pickup and course logistics. The event also offers virtual participation. Portland is approximately two hours from Boston and has direct flights from several U.S. cities, facilitating travel for visiting participants.
