Purpose and beneficiaries
The event is organized entirely by volunteers and returns 100% of its profits to children in the South Portland community. Most funds have supported a memorial scholarship account administered through the South Portland Community Center to help children access youth development programs. Other donations have gone to the South Portland Food Cupboard, the SoPo Skate Park, local soccer scholarships, shoe donations, and similar community efforts. Since 2016 the event has donated over $100,000 back to the community. Sponsors underwrite race costs so registration fees are directed to these local programs.
