Ugly Sweater 5K & Merry Mile
The event is a holiday-themed race day held in Falmouth with both in-person and virtual options. Distances offered include a 5-kilometre road race for runners and a 1 mile walk on the pedestrian way. Virtual entries are available for both distances.
The venue for the in-person events is at the American Legion on Depot Road, located across the street from the Falmouth Memorial Library. The start and finish lines are on Depot Road in front of the American Legion parking lot. Bib pick-up and same-day registration take place in a tent next to the American Legion. Parking is available nearby, including next to the baseball fields, with limited spaces at the American Legion and the library.
The 5K course follows Depot Road to U.S. Route 1, proceeds south to Route 88, and follows a loop through Old Mill, Edgewater, Anderson, Ridgeway and back to Depot Road. The Merry Mile uses the Depot Road and U.S. Route 1 sidewalk and returns to the same finish area. For safety, strollers are not allowed in the 5K on the street; participants with strollers may use the Merry Mile pedestrian route.
Awards include medals for first place male, female and nonbinary runners and medals for first place finishers in each 10-year age group. A family discount of five dollars per participant applies for families of three or more. Post-event refreshments will be available, and there will be voting for "ugliest" and "most original" outfits plus a free raffle. All proceeds benefit the Falmouth Memorial Library.
