Lilac Festival Run & Walk
The Lilac Festival Run & Walk takes place on Mackinac Island to mark the beginning of the annual Lilac Festival. The event features a paved course that leads participants through several distinct environments on the island. The route begins at Wyndamere Park on Main Street and passes through the downtown area before ascending toward the center of the island.
Participants travel along tree-covered roads including Huron Road and Garrison Road, passing through wooded areas and historic landmarks. The final section of the course follows the shore road, providing views of the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge. The event concludes in the yard of the Mackinac Island Public School.
Available distances and categories include:
- 10 km Run
- 10 km Walk
- 150 or 300 yards Kids Run
- 10 km Virtual Race
The kids' event, known as the Lil’ Lilac Kids Run, is held on the lawn outside the local school for young children. For the main 10 km events, participants are divided into various age divisions ranging from 12 and under to 85 and over.
All finishers receive a medal and a commemorative shirt. The organizers provide post-race refreshments, snacks, and water. Digital race photos are available for participants to download at no additional cost. The event is part of a series; those who complete three specific Mackinac Island races, including the Lilac Festival event, are eligible for a series medal.
Packet pickup is located at the Mackinac Island Public School. While there is no supervised gear check, space is available in the school gymnasium for storage, and lockers are located at the nearby ferry docks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
