The 30th Great Turtle Trail Run
The Great Turtle Trail Run takes place on Mackinac Island during the final open weekend of the October season. This event marks its 30th anniversary in 2026, welcoming over 2,400 participants to its inland trails. The race offers views of the late fall landscape, including the island interior and the Lake Huron shoreline.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5.7 Mile Run
- 5.7 Mile Walk
The Half Marathon begins at Mission Point Resort and follows the shoreline past Arch Rock before turning into the island interior. The route consists of paved roads and gravel bike trails, eventually returning to the lakefront for the finish. The 5.7 Mile course starts at Straits Lodge and leads through the interior trails and roads before finishing along the same shoreline path as the longer race.
All registered participants receive a commemorative garment, a finisher medal, and access to post-race refreshments. Digital race photos are provided at no additional cost. Water stations are positioned approximately every 2.5 miles along the course. Restroom facilities are available at the start and finish lines, as well as specific locations like Arch Rock and British Landing.
This event is part of the Mackinac Island Trio Series. Runners who complete three out of four specific island races within the calendar year are eligible for an additional series medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
