The Great Turtle Trail Run is a trail race on Mackinac Island that offers a half marathon and a shorter run/walk. Distances include:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5.7 Mile Run & Walk
The half marathon starts in front of Mission Point Resort. The 5.7 mile event starts in front of Straits Lodge at the corner of Wendall Street and Mission Street. Both events finish in the park in front of Mission Point Resort. The course follows the shoreline at the beginning and end and winds through the island interior on bike trails and roads. Surfaces are mostly paved with some gravel. Water stations are located about every 2.5 miles. Porta-johns are at the half marathon start/finish; restrooms are available at British Landing (about mile 4) and Arch Rock (about mile 9).
All finishers receive a commemorative garment and a finish medal. Free digital photos and post-race refreshments are provided. Awards are given to overall male and female, masters male and female, and the top three in each age division.
Logistics and policies
The Mackinac Island State Park Commission park usage fee of $8 is included in registration. Entry fees increase by date: $55 by March 31, $60 April 1–July 31, $65 August 1–September 30, $70 October 1–race day, and $75 race day. All events are non-refundable. Registrants may transfer their entry to another person for a fee or transfer to the virtual race at no fee. Packet pickup is at the Mission Point Resort Sound Stage. There is no monitored gear check; lockers are available at the ferry docks. Pets and baby joggers are discouraged but not prohibited. Headphones are allowed with one earpiece out. Participants are asked to be prepared to complete the half marathon within 3.5 hours. Discounted ferry tickets are available through Shepler’s Ferry.
