Great Turtle Trail Run
The Great Turtle Trail Run is an annual fall trail event on Mackinac Island held around the island’s last open weekend. The event includes a half marathon and a 5.7 mile run and walk, with all races starting and finishing in front of Mission Point Resort.
Courses combine shoreline sections with interior bike trails and roads. The half marathon begins along the shoreline, moves inland on mostly paved roads with some gravel and dirt bike trails, and returns to the shoreline at the finish. The 5.7 mile course also runs through the island interior before reaching the shoreline for the finish. Water stations are placed at roughly 2.5 mile intervals. Portable toilets are located at the half marathon start and finish; additional restrooms are available at British Landing and Arch Rock on the course.
All finishers receive a commemorative garment, a finish medal, free digital photos, and post-race refreshments. Awards are given for overall male and female, masters male and female, and the top three finishers in each age division. Age divisions cover standard five-year spans from youth into the 80s and above. Participants who complete three of four RunMackinac races are eligible for a separate Mackinac Island Trio Series medal that is awarded after the half marathon.
Event check-in and packet pickup occur at Mission Point Resort Sound Stage. Gear may be left there but is not monitored. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
