Ending the Silence 5K Run Walk
The 9th Annual Ending the Silence community event for suicide awareness and prevention takes place on November 7, 2026. The in-person event is scheduled at the University of West Florida Rec Plex North Field and serves participants across Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. A virtual edition runs alongside the in-person event; registration opens August 1, 2026, and virtual participants may complete their run or walk before Friday, October 30, 2026.
The event centerpieces a 5K run walk and includes post-race prize drawings; winners do not need to be present to receive awards. Proceeds support two local organizations:
- NAMI Emerald Coast: funds training and support for Family and Peer Support Groups; training classes offered in spring, summer, and fall; and educational programs such as NAMI SMARTS for Advocacy, In Our Own Voice, Sharing Hope, FaithNet, Provider Education for Mental Health Professionals, W.R.A.P. Session I and II, Helping Others Heal, and the 40-hour training required for Certified Recovery Peer Specialist Certification.
- Escarosa Suicide Prevention Coalition: supports the development and implementation of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention strategies and programs.
The event presents local information about the impact of suicide, including the number of people affected by each loss and regional averages for deaths and attempts, to raise awareness of prevention and postvention needs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
