Denis Rankin Round Relay
The Denis Rankin Round Relay is a team mountain relay around the Denis Rankin Round, starting and finishing at Donard Park in Newcastle. The underlying Denis Rankin Round is a circuit of peaks over 400 m in the Mourne mountains, covering approximately 90 km and 6500 m of ascent to be completed within a 24-hour period. The relay uses the DRR route in a clockwise direction and is divided into five legs.
Teams comprise three to five people, with runners able to run a maximum of two legs. Each team carries one GPS tracker that is passed to the next runner at each changeover. The event is self-supported and self-navigated; changeover points will not be marshalled and teams must be self-sufficient. Support runners are not allowed, but logistical support at changeover points is permitted. A mobile support team will move between changeover points to provide assistance when possible.
Entry details include a team fee of £50 and a minimum age of 18. There is a £2 levy for each team member not affiliated with ANI. Teams are responsible for their own transport to changeover points and any local access charges.
Mandatory FRA safety kit applies. Minimum items include waterproof whole-body cover, hat, gloves, whistle, map and compass, thermal blanket, and a charged mobile phone. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
