Event Details
The Buzzard's Roost is a mountain running race scheduled for Saturday, 3rd October 2026 in County Down. The race distance is 11.90 km with a total climb of 870 m. It is organized by Mourne Runners as part of the IMRA Ulster Championships and the NIMRA League (Medium Distance).
Course Information
The event has no short course option. The race difficulty is rated as 3 (1,1,1), described as Easy Terrain, with less than 200m of ascent and under 6km. Race marking will only be provided at major junctions, and the use of GPS devices is not allowed.
Mandatory Kit
A Level C - Advanced kit list is mandatory for all runners. The full list must be brought to the race, though the specific items to be carried during the event will be finalized on race day based on conditions. The list includes:
- Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
- Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
- Waterproof full leg cover
- Means to carry at least 500 mL of water
- Emergency food
- Map of route/area
- Compass
Runners must also have a means to carry all this kit. Random checks may be carried out, and failure to have the required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification.
Registration and Participation

To be included in the overall IMRA Ulster Championships or NIMRA League results, runners must complete their respective 2026 memberships prior to entering their first race in the series.
