Break 4 the Border Half Marathon
The Break 4 the Border Half Marathon takes place on 12 September 2026. The event is based at Greenbank Industrial Estate, Rampart Road, Newry, BT34 2QU. The half marathon starts in Newry, follows a short road section to Albert Basin, then continues along the Greenway and finishes at Carlingford Marina.
The route runs on tarmac and soft shingle and is reported to be about 90% traffic free. It follows the coastline of Carlingford Lough, passes through the village of Omeath and ends at Carlingford Marina. The 10K option will not run this year because part of the greenway is closed for the Narrow Water Bridge construction.
Practical arrangements include posted race packs, a finisher medal, individual chip timing, a race number and complimentary post race refreshments. There will be three water stations on the half marathon course and portable toilets at the start and finish, with an additional toilet on route. Prizegiving will take place at the finish line at Carlingford Marina where prizes are awarded for first, second and third male and female finishers.
Parking is available in Newry and in Carlingford. Runners who park in Carlingford will be transported to the start by bus and buses will return from Carlingford to Newry after the race. Buggies and pets are not permitted. The minimum age for the half marathon is 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
