Break 4 the Border Half Marathon
The Break 4 the Border Half Marathon takes place on 12 September 2026 and starts on Rampart Road at Greenbank Industrial Estate in Newry, finishing at Carlingford Marina. The route begins with a short road section to Albert Basin, then follows the recently completed Newry to Carlingford Greenway. The course runs on tarmac and soft shingle, is described as about 90 percent traffic free, and passes along the coastline of Carlingford Lough through the village of Omeath before reaching Carlingford Marina. The route crosses the border from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland on foot.
There is no 10K option in 2026 because part of the Greenway is closed for construction of the Narrow Water Bridge. To bypass the closure, the half marathon uses the R173 for approximately 1 km and a traffic management plan will be in place.
Entry is by online registration. Early bird entry is £40 until 3 June 2026 and the standard half marathon fee is £45 thereafter. Minimum age for the half marathon is 17 and there is no junior option. Race packs are posted in advance; postage and packing charges apply.
Included with entry are a finisher medal, individual chip timing, a race number, and complimentary post race refreshments. The course has three water stations, portable toilets at the start and finish and an additional toilet on route. Pets are not allowed and the course is not suitable for buggies. Runners may park in Newry or Carlingford; those parking in Carlingford are transported to the start by bus and buses return runners to Newry after the race. Voluntary charity donations are accepted at entry. Results and event photos will be published after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
