Newcastle Way Marathon and Half Marathon
The event takes place on 4 October 2026 in Newcastle, County Down. It offers two distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
The route follows the way marked Newcastle Way trail. The Marathon starts close to the centre of Newcastle town centre, runs through Tollymore Forest, crosses to Castlewellan Forest, then descends to Murlough. The course passes through the National Trust Murlough Reserve and continues onto the beach before finishing in Newcastle. The Half Marathon starts just outside Castlewellan Forest and follows the same route back to Newcastle. Participants in the Half Marathon will have the option to take a bus to the start.
Organisers do not add additional markers to the trail; participants are responsible for following the existing trail markers. A GPX file and detailed route instructions are provided for use on GPS devices or mobile apps. Included services listed by the organisers are a bespoke medal, medical cover throughout the event, and full insurance. Post race refreshments have been supplied by Quinns Bar for the last three years, with 2026 arrangements to be confirmed. Cut off times are seven hours for the Marathon and five hours for the Half Marathon.
