Mourne Mountain Marathon
The Mourne Mountain Marathon is a two-day endurance and navigation event held in the Mourne Mountains of Northern Ireland. The competition is designed for teams of two who must be self-sufficient, carrying their own equipment and camping overnight between the two days of racing. The event uses SPORTident race timing and offers a flexible start time on the first day.
Participants can choose from several categories based on their experience and fitness levels:
- Elite, B, C, and D Classes: Two-day courses covering between 35 km and 55 km.
- Score Class: A one-day event where teams aim to collect points within a six-hour time limit.
For the two-day classes, the winning team is the one that reaches a set number of control markers in the fastest time. The course distances and total ascent vary depending on the specific route and terrain. The event is open to a range of participants, from walkers to elite runners, with a field limit of 200 teams.
Registration includes a T-shirt, car sticker, and refreshments provided at the end of the second day. Competitors are required to follow a specific kit list to ensure safety while navigating the mountain terrain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
