Locomotion Trail Runs
The Locomotion Trail Runs mark the 201st anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and acknowledge local engineering history. The event offers two measured route options that partly follow the original railway alignment and use a mix of road and track surfaces.
The venue is Locomotion on Station Road, Eaglescliffe, with one route starting or finishing at the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton. Northern Rail is providing free use of the Eaglescliffe Station car park for competitors and supporters, and free rail travel from Eaglescliffe to Thornaby is available for 5 mile runners; this involves a short walk from Thornaby bridge to the 5 mile start point.
Proceeds support the Great North Air Ambulance and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with 50% of event receipts allocated to MND. All finishers receive medals and male and female winners receive trophies. The event is supported by rail companies and local organisations, and includes a raffle with first class rail ticket prizes and a guided House of Commons tour prize.
Participation rules and practical notes include a minimum age of 10; entrants aged 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Prams are not suitable except those designed for cross country use, and both routes are dog friendly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
- 10 miles - partly along the original railway route, about 3 miles road, 7 miles track.
