Hardmoors 60

The Hardmoors 60 is a coastal ultramarathon of approximately 63 miles following the Cleveland Way from Guisborough to Filey. The route runs mainly along cliff tops and passes Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough before finishing in Filey. Total ascent is listed as 8202 ft / 2500 m.

Runners must complete the course within 18 hours and pass all manned checkpoints. Manned checkpoints include Highcliff Nab, Saltburn Bandstand, Runswick Bay (top car park), Sandsend car park, Hornblower Lodge (water only), Ravenscar (St Hilda's Church) and Scarborough (Holbeck car park). Water and basic food are available at specific checkpoints; organisers do not supply plastic cups. Two additional water spots may be used at Skinningrove and Crookness.

A tracker is supplied with entry to report location during the event. Each competitor may leave up to two non returnable drop bags for Runswick Bay and Ravenscar; bags must be no larger than a supermarket carrier bag. Mandatory kit must be carried for the duration of the race and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or bandana and gloves, minimum 0.5 litre fluid, headtorch plus spare, paper map, whistle, survival bag and a mobile phone.

Relay teams may enter with two to four runners and must visit every checkpoint. Rules include tide controls at Runswick Bay and a permanent Scarborough diversion; marshals’ instructions are final.
