About the race
The Lethbridge 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a commemorative climb held at the Melcor Centre in Lethbridge on October 4, 2026. The activity is described as physically demanding; the objective is to complete the ascent and descent of 110 stories, a distance presented as equivalent to the height of the World Trade Center towers as they stood before September 11, 2001. The event is organized to honour those who were lost in the line of duty and to remember fallen members of Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services.
Participants are encouraged to collect sponsor pledges to raise funds for A New Dawn Foundation and Lethbridge Firefighters Charities Association. Donations are also accepted from people who do not participate in the climb. Timing chips are used to count laps and provide an accurate time, but the event is not a race. Registrations made before September 20, 2026 will receive a T-shirt; the first 75 registrants will receive a shaker cup.
Safety and logistics notes provided by the organizer include a mandatory signed waiver before participation, package pick up at Lethbridge Supplements and Vitamins (1406 3 Ave S, #2) on October 2, 2026, instructions to stay single file and to the right in the stairwell, and a request that participants hydrate and warm up. Participants may not climb in turnout or tactical firefighting gear; a limited number of SCBA units may be available on a first come, first served basis.
