ZZ TROT at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Site
ZZ TROT is a trail running festival held at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Site in La Grange, Texas. The park sits above the Colorado River and offers views overlooking the town. The terrain includes wider pathways up top, grass areas, rocky single-track and double-track running up and down the ravine, and a section of stone stairs above the old brewery. The 5k course includes a shorter loop with a stair climb and highlights the park landscape. Expect around 500 ft of gain and loss in the 5k, and about 250 ft per mile on the outer loop.
The event uses a mixed format to improve flow and safety. The Sharp Dressed 5k is run in seeded waves based on estimated finish time. The one-mile events are run as individual time trials with runners starting at 30 second intervals. Results are provided for each event and an aggregated time for combined entries. A Tres Hombres Challenge combines the 5k and both one-mile time trials with individual and total times recorded.
Participant items include race entry and bib, race shirt for certain events, a finishers medal, park entry, themed items such as a fake beard or sunglasses and a temporary tattoo or sticker, and access to a live ZZ Top tribute band concert. The kids run is held on flatter top-ridge trails and is open to ages 1 to 10 with a venue pass included. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
