Hells Hills Trail Race
Hells Hills Trail Race is held at Rocky Hill Ranch near Smithville, Texas, on April 3, 2027. The event offers several distance options on single track trails that pass through pine trees, bridges, and stream crossings, with fields of wildflowers in season.
Distances include:
- 50 miles
- 50K
- 25K
- 10K
- 25K Ruck
- 10K Ruck
- Youth 1 mile
Course format and terrain are described as mostly short, steep hills and rolling ups and downs rather than long sustained climbs. Route details note lap lengths: the 10K and 25K are single laps, the 50K is two 15.5 mile laps, and the 50 mile is three 16.67 mile laps. The course is well marked using orange caution tape, yellow arrows, and confidence markers; markings include reflectors for dark hours and signs that indicate where shorter distances diverge.
Support and logistics include two full on-course aid stations, a start/finish aid area called the Saloon, and a self-support station. A temporary 10K aid point may be present at about 3.7 miles. Supplies are placed at roughly 2.8 to 4.5 mile intervals. The event is cupless, so runners must carry their own cup or bottle; collapsible cups are available for purchase at packet pickup for seven dollars cash or Venmo. Camping is available onsite at Rocky Hill Ranch.
Ruck division rules set mandatory pack weights by body weight, require the weight to be carried on the back, and prohibit trekking poles. Chip timing uses ankle straps and chips must be returned if a runner leaves the course. Drop bags are allowed at the start/finish area but no on course delivery or security is provided. The youth mile is untimed and awards a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
