YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon
The YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon is a multi-event race held in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The event began in 1979 as the Pepsi Triathlon and has continued as an annual sprint-format competition. It takes place in and around Wrightsville Beach Park and lists Wrightsville Beach Town Hall as an associated location.
The event program includes an Individual sprint triathlon, a Relay division, an Aquabike division, and a Youth Triathlon. The Youth Triathlon is open to ages 7 to 15, while the individual, relay, and aquabike events are open to ages 10 and up. Organizers provide packet pickup on the days before the race and on race day, and a recommended bike check in the day before the event. Transition and chip procedures are part of race operations, and an awards ceremony follows the competition.
Course descriptions note a flat route with short distances, which the event presents as suitable for new triathletes and for athletes seeking a fast time trial. The event also includes a corporate relay division intended to encourage local business participation and recognition within the community.
