About the race
The Wilmington Historic race weekend takes place on 12/5/2026 in Wilmington, North Carolina, with the start and finish at Riverfront Park, 10 Cowan St. The event offers in-person and virtual options for the same set of distances. Available distances include: - Wilmington Historic Challenge - 16.2 miles (5K plus Half Marathon) - Wilmington Historic Half Marathon - 13.1 miles - Wilmington Historic 10K - 6.2 miles - Wilmington Historic 5K - 3.1 miles The Half Marathon and 10K courses run through historic downtown Wilmington, cross three downtown bridges, and include over one mile along the riverwalk. The 5K weaves through historic downtown and returns to finish at Riverfront Park. Registration opens 12/19/2025 and closes 1/6/2026.
Published entry fees are $90 for the Challenge, $60 for the Half Marathon, $40 for the 10K, and $35 for the 5K; the same fees apply to virtual entries. In-person registration packages list a race bib, finisher medal for the entered distance, a shirt, and a bonus gift for the first 1,200 in-person registrants. Virtual entries include medal and shirt and do not require submission of results; the bonus gift is reserved for in-person participants. Challenge runners must complete the 5K in 45 minutes or less to be eligible to join the Half Marathon start.
Every participant earns a finisher medal. Awards for top finishers are available at an awards tent only, there is no formal ceremony, and awards will not be mailed. The finish area at Riverfront Park will feature music, complimentary beer from Wrightsville Beach Brewery and Oden Brewing Company, and food.
