Cape Fear Habitat Turkey Trot
The Cape Fear Habitat Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day fundraiser held on November 26, 2026, in downtown Wilmington at Live Oak Bank Pavilion, 10 Cowan Street, along the Cape Fear River. The event supports Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity's homebuilding work in New Hanover, Pender, and Duplin Counties.
Distances offered include:
- 5K Run/Walk (timed)
- 1 Mile Run/Walk (not timed)
Registration fees are listed at $35.00 for each event. Registration windows in 2026 are provided separately for each distance: the 5K registration opens 2026-06-02 and the 1 Mile registration opens 2026-06-30; both registration periods close 2026-07-07. Registration is available online before the race and may also be completed in person at packet pickup or on race morning using a provided QR code.
Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in legal street spots and parking lots; street parking is free in downtown Wilmington on Thanksgiving. The event includes a racer costume contest and a pet costume party; pets are welcome in the park at the start and finish area but are not permitted to race. Prizes are awarded for first through third place in the costume contests.
Last year participants raised enough funds to build a home for a neighbor in the community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
