Dashing Thru The Glow is a holiday running event presented by AvanceCare in downtown Wilmington on December 12, 2026. The event starts and finishes at Live Oak Bank Pavilion at 10 Cowan Street along the Cape Fear River and includes routes that pass downtown holiday light displays and a community Christmas tree.
Distances offered:
- 5K, timed event
- 1 Mile, untimed event
Both distances may be run or walked. Parts of the course are a little dark; participants are advised to bring a headlamp. At the finish line, event staff described as elves hand out finisher medals to everyone who completes either distance. Every participant receives a light-up holiday beanie. Other listed items include a race shirt while supplies last, a glow necklace, cookies, and free pictures with Santa.
The event features a Best Dressed Runner Costume Contest and coincides with the Downtown Wilmington Holidays on the Water drone show, with recommended viewing areas along Water Street from Grace Street to Dock Street. Event proceeds support the Coastal Horizons Open House Youth Shelter and Toys for Tots. The Open House Youth Shelter is a 24-hour, 9-bed facility serving children and adolescents ages 6 to 18 and offers counseling, education support, life skills, and recreational activities at no cost.
