Winterlude Triathlon
The Winterlude Triathlon takes place in Ottawa as part of the Winterlude Festival and is based at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility. The event has been held since 1984 and is described by the organizer as the world's oldest winter triathlon. It combines skating, running and cross-country skiing (classic or skate-ski).
The race uses a mass start with two start waves; the first athlete to the finish wins. Each discipline takes place on a different local course and the event finishes at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.
Distances
- Skate: 8 km on the Rideau Canal
- Run: 5 km from Dow's Lake to the Terry Fox Facility
- Ski: 6 km at Mooney's Bay, finishing at the Terry Fox Facility
Registration includes a personalized race bib, professional timing, on-course nutrition supplied by XACT, race photography, post-race snacks and hot chocolate, and podium prizes for the top three male, female, and non-binary athletes. Bib pickup is offered the day before at a location to be confirmed and on race morning at the Terry Fox Facility.
Shuttle buses transport athletes and skates to the Rideau Canal. Lafleur Ski Rentals operates inside the Terry Fox Facility for equipment rental; participants using long-blade ski boots for the skating portion may consider renting a second pair of boots. The course route and distances are subject to change based on weather; refunds are available only for entrants who purchased cancellation insurance.
Important deadlines include a shirt order deadline on December 18 and an online registration deadline of January 26. Finisher medals are optional and available subject to availability. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
