Wilson Creek Frozen 50k
The Wilson Creek Frozen 50k takes place in the Wilson Creek trail system, located 30 minutes south of Nampa, Idaho, near the town of Melba. The event is held in January and provides a winter trail running experience where participants navigate the local landscape while exposed to the seasonal weather conditions.
The course features several landmarks within southwest Idaho, including the Reynolds Creek gorge. Participants run along the China Ditch and reach the summit of Wilson Peak. The event offers three distinct distance options:
- 50k (31 miles) total distance.
- 20 miles distance.
- 10 miles distance.
The terrain varies by distance. The 10 mile loop includes 1,500 feet of elevation gain. The 20 mile loop involves 4,500 feet of elevation gain. The 50k course is a combination of these two loops, resulting in a total elevation gain of 6,000 feet.
Registration for these trail races typically opens in August and closes in early December. The event utilizes the Wilson Creek Road area as its primary location for all distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
