Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association Event
The Wharfedale 3 Peaks Challenge is a fundraising event held in the Yorkshire Dales, with all proceeds supporting the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. Based in the village of Kettlewell, the event offers three distinct courses that utilize the terrain of the Wharfedale valley. The routes are open to both runners and walkers of good fitness levels, while the shorter valley walk provides an option for families.
Participants can choose from the following course options:
- Three Peaks route: 17 miles with 3,800ft of ascent, covering Firth Fell, Buckden Pike, and Great Whernside.
- Two Peaks route: 13.5 miles (noted as 13 miles in some maps) with 2,500ft of ascent, covering Buckden Pike and Great Whernside.
- Valley Walk: 4.5 miles with 300ft of elevation, following the River Wharfe and the Paradise Walk.
The three and two peak routes include water stations at Buckden village and the Tor Dike/Park Rash road crossing. Participants are required to bring their own water containers. The valley walk follows the Dalesway to Starbottom and returns to Kettlewell at a higher elevation.
Registration includes event parking and refreshments such as tea, coffee, and pies or pasties. A cake stall is also available on-site. While the valley walk is open to dogs, they are not permitted on the two or three peak courses. The event also provides an opportunity to view the rescue team's vehicles and equipment.
