Wharfedale 3 Peaks Challenge
The Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge is an annual fundraising event organised by the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association and based in Kettlewell village in Upper Wharfedale. All routes start and finish in Kettlewell and take place in the Wharfedale valley.
There are three courses to choose from:
- Three Peaks route, 17 miles / 3800 ft, Firth Fell Buckden Pike Great Whernside
- Two Peaks route, 13 miles / 2500 ft, Buckden Pike Great Whernside
- Valley family walk, 4.5 miles / 300 ft, follows Dalesway Starbottom River Wharfe Paradise Walk
The three and two peak routes are open to walkers and runners of good fitness and cross upland terrain with valley views. The family walk follows established paths beside the River Wharfe and returns along the Paradise Walk, offering quieter, lower level walking suitable for families. At the finish there is an opportunity to view the rescue team Landrovers and equipment.
Water stations are provided at Buckden village and at the Tor Dike / Park Rash road crossing, and participants are advised to bring a water container. Entry includes parking and a pie or pasty with tea or coffee. Additional refreshments and a cake stall raise funds for the rescue team. Dogs are not permitted on the course except on the valley walk. Charity places are available; contact the event team for details. Entry on the day is £25. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
