UWFRA Wharfedale 3 Peaks Challenge
The Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge is an annual fundraising event organised by the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. It is held in the Wharfedale valley, with all courses starting and finishing in Kettlewell village in the Yorkshire Dales. The event is in its 14th year and supports the operational costs of the local mountain rescue team.
There are three route options:
- Three Peaks Challenge: 17 miles, 3800 ft ascent; Firth Fell, Buckden Pike, Great Whernside.
- Two Peaks Challenge: 13.5 miles, 2500 ft ascent; Buckden Pike, Great Whernside.
- Family Walk: 4.5 miles, 300 ft ascent along the Dalesway and Paradise Walk.
The family walk has age categories for adults and children. The valley walk adult category is for those 18 years or older; the valley walk child category is for those up to 17 years old. Entry fees listed for the event include parking, a pie or pasty, and tea or coffee. Additional refreshments and a cake stall are available with proceeds to the rescue team. Water stations are provided at Buckden village and at the Tor Dike / Park Rash road crossing; participants are advised to bring a water container. Dogs are not permitted on the main courses but are allowed on the valley walk. GPX files and route descriptions are provided for the routes, and there is an opportunity to view the rescue team Landrovers and equipment at the finish.
