Leeds Country Way In A Day 100km

The Leeds Country Way In A Day is a full circumnavigation of the city of Leeds. The route covers approximately 100 km (62 miles), making a complete circuit around the metropolitan district. While the course remains within 7 miles of Leeds City Square, the terrain is primarily rural. Participants travel through numerous neighbouring towns, villages, parks, and nature reserves, offering views of the West and North Yorkshire countryside.

The course utilizes public rights of way, including footpaths, bridleways, and minor lanes, with approximately 20% of the route on road or tarmac and 80% on trails. The path is way-marked with the Owl symbol, and all competitors receive a GPX file for navigation. Runners must be prepared to navigate independently through fields and unmarked sections.

There are five checkpoints located along the route:

  • 21 km: Wike Lane
  • 43 km: Garforth
  • 62 km: TBC
  • 77 km: Woodkirk
  • 89 km: Pudsey

Checkpoints provide water and a selection of snacks. A returnable drop bag is permitted at the halfway point. Mandatory equipment includes a headtorch, waterproof jacket, warm hat, 1-litre water capacity, and a device with the GPX route. Support crews and pacers are permitted on the course. The event starts and finishes at St John's Community Church in Greengates on even-numbered years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
