Leeds Country Way In A Day 100km
The event is a full circumnavigation of the city of Leeds using the Leeds Country Way footpaths. The route is approximately 100 km (about 62 miles) and visits neighbouring towns, villages, parks and nature reserves. It remains within seven miles of Leeds City Square while passing through mainly rural areas with views to the West and North Yorkshire countryside.
The course follows public rights of way including footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes, with a few short sections on roads. Under typical conditions the route is about 80 percent trail and 20 percent road. Weather can change underfoot conditions substantially.
The Leeds Country Way is waymarked with the Owl symbol and all competitors receive a GPX file. Navigation is the entrant's responsibility and markers are placed on posts and trees only, so vigilance is required through fields and unmarked sections.
Support and facilities include multiple checkpoints along the route at Wike Lane (21 km), Garforth (43 km), a midpoint checkpoint around 62 km, Woodkirk (77 km) and Pudsey (89 km). Checkpoints provide water and a selection of snacks. A small returnable drop bag is permitted at the halfway checkpoint. Toilets are available at the start and finish and the route passes through towns where public facilities may be available.
Mandatory kit includes a phone or watch with the GPX map, headtorch, waterproof jacket, warm hat or wrap and capacity for 1 litre of water. Pacers are allowed but must not carry any mandatory equipment for the entrant. Crew support is permitted at any point and competitors should be courteous to local residents.
