TRI for Lewy
TRI for Lewy is a Half triathlon relay held in Solon, Iowa. Teams may consist of 2 to 12 athletes and the event also offers a solo division in which an individual completes the full course. The relay is divided into four legs so teams can split the course according to each participant's abilities and goals.
Each relay leg includes:
- Swim: 0.3 miles out and back; kayak option leads to Alternative Division.
- Bike: 14 miles out and back; electric bikes allowed and placed in Alternative Division.
- Run: 3.28 miles out and back.
Together the four relay legs equal a Half triathlon: a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run. Teams or individuals who use a kayak for the swim or an electric bike for the bike leg will be placed in an Alternative Division for results and awards; those entrants will still complete the full course, receive an official finish time, and be recognized as official finishers.
The event began as a personal fundraising effort following a family diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia and is organized to raise awareness, support families affected by dementia, and provide opportunities for community involvement. Volunteer roles include event setup, athlete check-in, aid stations, kayak support, transition assistance, and finish line duties, with training provided for most roles.
