Mental Health Matters 5k - Hiawatha
The Mental Health Matters 5K is a community event held in Hiawatha, Iowa. The event takes place at Stillwater Coffee and serves as a day of remembrance and connection to promote mental health awareness and community support. The event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities to honor those lost to suicide and to support survivors.
Participants can choose from the following options:
- 5 km Run
- 5 km Walk
- 5 km Virtual Race
The in-person run and walk take place simultaneously on a course starting at Stillwater Coffee. Individuals who cannot attend the physical event in Hiawatha may participate in the virtual 5K, which allows participants to complete the distance at a location of their choice. While the physical race includes various age categories for competition, the virtual option is not eligible for prizes.
Trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in several age categories, ranging from 10 and under to 70 plus. Registrants receive a long-sleeved race shirt, with availability guaranteed for those who register by September 1. Packet pickup is organized on the Friday before the event at the race location, with a secondary pickup window available on the morning of the event. Registration is open to both individuals and teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
