Welsh Three Peaks Challenge
The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge covers the three highest peaks in Wales: Snowdon (1,085 m) in the north, Cadair Idris (893 m) in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan (886 m) in the south. The route is organised in three stages with driving between the peaks, spanning North, Mid and South Wales.
The total walking distance is around 17 miles (27.4 km) with approximately 2,334 m (7,657 ft) of ascent. The challenge is typically completed in around 19 hours. Compared with the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the Welsh route has more ascent over a shorter distance, which results in steeper climbs and additional logistics.
There are two participation formats. On a guided challenge participants have experienced mountain leaders, transport between the three peaks and on-route support. Alternatively teams can plan their own challenge using route notes, driving guidance, parking information and timing advice and provide their own transport.
The event listing notes no minimum group size, allowing solo participants or teams. Difficulty indicators on the listing describe effort, terrain and logistics to help with planning. The Welsh Three Peaks is presented as a distinct option alongside other Three Peaks challenges such as the Yorkshire and National routes.
