Welsh Three Peaks Challenge
The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge covers the three principal peaks of Wales: Snowdon (1,085 m) in the North, Cadair Idris (893 m) in mid-Wales and Pen y Fan (886 m) in the South. The route involves travel between the three mountains across North, Mid and South Wales.
The combined walking distance is 17 miles (27.4 km) with a total ascent of 2,334 metres (7,657 ft). The route is normally completed in around 19 hours. Compared with the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the Welsh route has more ascent over a shorter walking distance, resulting in steeper climbs.
There are two ways to take part. On guided challenges participants have experienced mountain leaders, transport between the three peaks and support throughout. Alternatively teams can plan their own challenge and provide their own transport and logistics.
Practical information available for the event includes route notes for each mountain, driving links, parking guidance and timing advice. Guided events are offered from approximately £399 per person. The event is presented as a continuous three-stage route requiring travel between peaks and may involve early starts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
