The Underground Circus 100
The Underground Circus 100 is a multi-distance ultrarunning event at Kennesaw Mountain Trail in Kennesaw, GA. The course uses mixed trail, gravel road, and asphalt, and passes wooded areas, scenic views, 18th century homes, and historical battle sites. Runners encounter rocks and roots on some trail sections; parts of the route run on relatively flat asphalt with a grass trail alongside.
Distances available include:
- 100 Miles with a 36 hour time limit
- 50 Miles with a 20 hour time limit
- 24 Hour timed event
- 12 Hour timed event
- 6 Hour timed event
The course is looped with a timing mat and staffed aid stations. Two aid stations are present and stated to be attended; they provide cups, sports drink, and various snacks. Volunteers and a race director monitor laps and have authority over disqualification. Night runners are required to use a headlamp or reflective gear for safety. Wildlife on the route may include deer and possibly snakes. The trail is open to the public, and the organizer enforces an anti-litter policy; participants who litter may be banned.
Awards include a customized brass buckle for the 100 mile finisher, finisher awards for 50 miles and shorter distances, and certificates for every distance and time. Proceeds support services for people experiencing homelessness; donated items such as socks, underwear, toothpaste, and toothbrushes are accepted.
