Event Overview

The Teanaway Navigation Race is a navigation race held in the Teanaway Valley near Cle Elum, Washington. The event uses highly detailed orienteering maps from the Cascade Orienteering Club. Participants must navigate to checkpoints marked on a topographic map. The race takes place in open pine forests with varied terrain, including grasslands, forest areas, and former logging roads.

Course and Timing

Participants choose between 2-hour, 4-hour, or 8-hour time categories. The event starts at a common time. The map scale is 1:15,000. The terrain consists of open pine forest and clearings, with passability ranging from open grassland to thick forest.

Location and Facilities

The start, finish, and registration area is located on West Fork Teanaway Road. A Discover Pass is required for parking and camping in the Teanaway Community Forest; day passes are not sold on-site. Free riverside camping is available at the West Fork Teanaway Campground, less than a mile from the start. The campground has pit toilets but no running water or power. Hotels are available in Cle Elum, about a 30-minute drive away.

Additional Information

A free Introduction to Navigation session is offered on the morning of the event. Trails are open to other users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians. Dogs are allowed on-leash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
