The Magnificent Bastards Challenge
The event is held in Corinth, Vermont, at 10397 VT-25, East Corinth. It honors the KIA Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines with a Last Man Standing style format and includes separate running and rucking divisions plus an Honor Lap.
The Last Man Standing running format uses repeated 1 mile loops with about 300 feet of climbing per loop. Each loop must be completed within 20 minutes. Runners repeat loops until one person remains. The 24th mile is the minimum distance required to receive a medal and is offered as a fast lap with a prize for the fastest time on that lap. Runners who register prior to June 25 are guaranteed custom Race Mozey silkies; later registrants are not guaranteed silkies.
The Honor Lap is a single 1 mile loop completed at the participant's own pace. Honor Lap registration proceeds to Northeast Slopes. Participants may check in and complete the lap while the event is underway.
The Last Rucker Standing format uses the same 1 mile loop and roughly 300 feet of climbing. Ruckers start with 30 minutes per loop. After eight hours the allowed time is reduced by one minute per loop until it reaches 20 minutes, which then holds for the remainder of the event. Male participants must carry 35 pounds and female participants 25 pounds, carried in a pack. Weights are checked at the start, at the end, and at random times. Ruckers who reach eight hours receive a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
