The Magnificent Bastards Challenge
The Magnificent Bastards Challenge is a last-person-standing style event held in Corinth, VT at 10397 VT-25. The event honors the KIA Marines from the 2nd Battalion 4th Marines and includes three formats: Last Man Standing, Last Rucker Standing, and an Honor Lap.
Last Man Standing uses repeated 1 mile loops with about 300 feet of climbing and a 20-minute loop time. Participants repeat loops until one person remains. The 24th mile is designated as a faster lap; completing 24 miles is the minimum required to receive a medal and a prize is awarded for the fastest time on that lap. Runners who register prior to June 25 are guaranteed custom Race Mozey silkies; later registrants are not guaranteed silkies.
Last Rucker Standing also uses 1 mile loops with about 300 feet of climbing and starts with a 30-minute loop time. After eight hours the allowed loop time is reduced by one minute per loop until it reaches 20 minutes, after which it remains at 20 minutes. Male participants must carry 35 pounds and female participants 25 pounds in a pack; sandbags and weighted vests are not allowed. Pack weight will be checked at the start, at the end, and at random during the event. Ruckers who reach eight hours receive a medal. Ruckers who register before June 25 are guaranteed custom Race Mozey silkies.
The Honor Lap consists of a single 1 mile loop completed at the participant’s chosen pace. Honor Lap registration funds go to Northeast Slopes. Participants may check in and complete the lap while the event is ongoing.
Registration closes on July 23. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
