The Longest Day 100K
The Longest Day is an elimination-style trail event held at The Preserve at Lakewood in Greenville, SC. The course is a two mile loop that winds through 120 acres of forest, rolling grass trails, and shaded sections. Wildlife sightings such as white-tailed deer, box turtles, and foxes are possible along the route. Vegetation includes stands of red cedar and maple with birds like mockingbirds and blue jays present.
The event uses repeated laps with a decreasing cutoff system. Lap 1 has a 45 minute cutoff and each subsequent lap reduces the cutoff by one minute. All runners start each lap together and individual lap times are not recorded. Missing a cutoff ends an individual participant’s race; those who finish the final lap winner determination is by order across the finish line.
Distances awarded correspond to completed lap counts:
- Half Marathon (7 laps)
- Marathon (14 laps)
- 50K (16 laps)
- 50 Miles (25 laps)
- 100K (31 laps)
Event logistics note that there is no water or power on site. The aid station is cup free and offers items such as pickles, cookies, candy, water, cola, and ginger ale; participants should bring a bottle, hydration vest, or reusable cup. Packet pickup is available. Overnight camping and tent setup are offered as part of the event arrangements.
