The Longest Day
The Longest Day is a trail race at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. The event takes place on a 2-mile loop through roughly 120 acres of forest and rolling grass paths, with partial shade, varied terrain, and local wildlife.
The format is a repeated-lap elimination from sunrise to sunset. The first lap has a 45-minute time limit and each subsequent lap reduces the allowable time by one minute. Participants who do not meet a lap cutoff must stop and surrender their bib. If a participant completes lap 31, the first across the line at that point is the overall winner for the full distance.
Distances offered include:
- 13.1
- 26.2
- 50k
- 50mi
- 100k
Aid at the course includes snacks such as pickles, cookies, and candy, and beverages including water, Coke, and ginger ale. The event is cup-less; participants should supply their own drinking container. Registration includes a finisher medal, a custom race bib, park entry, event-themed giveaways, a race sticker, complimentary race photos, music and a post-race gathering, an iced or water towel, and a hydration sample.
Camping and crew areas are available near the start/finish area, with an option for Friday evening tent setup and overnight camping by reservation. Race proceeds support the Upstate Running Club Youth Team. Volunteers who work a three-hour shift may earn a free entry to an Upstate Race Series-owned event.
