JL Mann's Race for a Reason 2026
J. L. Mann High School Key Club will host the fifth Race for a Reason, a community color run and walk on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at J. L. Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina. The event is a 5K color run/walk. The registration fee is $10 and registration opens July 24, 2026 and closes on the day of the event. Participants may purchase a 5K shirt for an additional charge. All ages are welcome.
The beneficiary is Touched By ALS, a nonprofit that supports individuals and families facing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is described as a progressive, terminal disease in which the brain stops sending signals to the muscles, eventually causing full-body paralysis while cognitive function can remain intact. Touched By ALS provides needs-based programs, guidance, resources, and financial assistance to help families manage the financial, emotional, and everyday burdens of the disease and to allow families to spend time together.
Funds raised by the event will directly support Touched By ALS programs serving children and adults in the Upstate of South Carolina. Recent local trends noted in association with the event include a rise in cases in Greenville of about 50 percent in recent years and average out-of-pocket care costs around $120,000 even after insurance.
