Jones Gap Trail Half Marathon
The Jones Gap Trail Half Marathon is a trail race held at River Falls Lodge in Marietta, SC. The race covers 13.1 miles through the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area and Jones Gap State Park, moving from a road section onto sustained singletrack.
The course visits Rainbow Falls, the Rim of the Gap Trail, and Little Pinnacle Mountain, and includes crossings of the Middle Saluda River across roughly 13,000 acres of woodlands. Runners should expect about 2,000 feet of total elevation gain and sections of rock, river crossings, and sustained climbing.
Two aid stations are located at approximately mile 2.2 and mile 10.9, leaving a long unsupported middle section; the event is cupless, so participants must carry their own hydration vessel. Free on-site parking is available at River Falls Lodge, with a larger adjacent field for vehicles. Packet pickup is on race day at the lodge at the start/finish location. A gear pavilion and vehicle access within about 50 meters allow for leaving personal items near the start area.
Race services include chip timing with live results, a custom race bib, a finisher medal, age group awards across 15 categories, and overall trophies for the top three men and top three women. Post-race offerings note hot pancakes, music, a social gathering, and complimentary professional race photos. The race is part of the Upstate Trail Series and the Upstate Giving Series. Groups of five or more receive a $5 group discount and refund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
