The Haunted Forest Marathon
The Haunted Forest Marathon is a family-friendly, themed event taking place in Canal Fulton, Ohio. The 2026 edition is the sixth annual event.
The event features three in-person distances:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
There are also virtual options for the marathon and half marathon distances.
The first mile of each in-person course is on road, with the remainder run on the Towpath Trail, a surface of hard-packed crushed limestone and blacktop. The marathon course is described as having a total of 57 feet of elevation gain over its entire length. Both the marathon and half marathon courses are USATF-certified.
The event promotes itself as a Boston Marathon qualifier, noting that 18% of marathon participants qualified in 2025. Runners who achieve a Boston qualifying time on race day receive a second medal. The event also features a "Smash the PR PUMPKIN" activity for runners who set a personal best on the course.
Awards are presented on a rolling basis throughout the morning and are given for top overall finishers, masters categories, and age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
