2.2. Dover – Kent Backyard Ultra Series
2.2. Dover is a winter Backyard Ultra held at Great Farthingloe Farm in Farthingloe Valley near the White Cliffs of Dover. The event uses an indoor basecamp in the Great Barn to provide shelter from winter weather, while the course runs along the top of the valley with wide open views across the Channel. In clear conditions the route can include views of France. The event is described as the closest UK Backyard Ultra to mainland Europe.
The format is the Last Person Standing Backyard Ultra. Each "yard" measures 4.167 miles. A new yard starts every hour; runners must complete that yard and return to the starting corral before the bell to continue. There is only one finisher. The final runner to complete a yard before the winner is called the Assist. The published course record is 33 yards.
Entry options include the full Backyard Ultra entry with no set finish and a 7 Hour Challenge that uses the same course and finishes after seven hours. The event does not permit outside structures as a winter event. Volunteer roles are available through the event crew program; volunteers must be 18 or older and earn transferable race credit equivalent to £10 per hour.
