Deal Castle 5 Mile
The Deal Castle 5 Mile is a seaside road race held in Deal, Kent on November 1st. The event uses the promenade adjacent to Deal Castle and follows a flat, fast out and back route along the seafront toward Kingsdown and back past Deal Pier. The course is marshalled and includes a sweeper marshal who accompanies the last runner.
Race headquarters are at the Sea Scout Hut on Marine Road, near the public toilets. There is seafront parking and town car parks nearby. Registration opens on the day and closes shortly before each race for number collection and any available late entries.
A junior 1500 m race is held before the main event. Junior runners complete 750 m out and 750 m back to the finish; parents or guardians may escort a child but should start at the back to avoid impeding faster juniors.
Prizes are presented in the Sea Scout Hut. Cash prizes are awarded to the overall male and female winners, and a shared cash prize pot of £200 is available should a course record be broken. Mobile results can be sent by text. Bone conduction headphones are permitted; in-ear and over-ear headphones are not allowed in line with England Athletics regulations.
