FAB 5k Challenge Program
The FAB 5K Challenge Program is a free initiative held in Hamilton, Ontario, designed for youth girls in grades 6, 7, and 8. The program operates over 12 weeks and utilizes running as a framework for goal setting and building resilience. Participants are prepared to complete a final 5 km run.
The sessions take place once a week for 90 minutes at nine different community centres across Hamilton:
- Dominic Agostino Riverdale Recreation Centre
- Sir Winston Churchill Recreation Centre
- Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre
- Bennetto Recreation Centre
- Westmount Recreation Centre
- Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre
- BGC Hamilton-Halton (Kiwanis)
- Norman Pinky Lewis Recreation Centre
- Central Memorial Recreation Centre
Throughout the 12-week duration, the schedule includes specific milestone events, such as a 3 km run and a 4 km run, leading up to the main 5 km challenge. Transportation is provided for these weekend events.
Eligibility is open to individuals whose gender identity or sex is female, residing within 3 kilometres of a program location. Participants receive a new pair of running shoes, a t-shirt, and healthy snacks at no cost.
