The FAB 5K Program
The FAB 5K Challenge Program is a free program for youth girls in grades 6, 7, and 8. It combines sport (running) with a goal-setting framework, challenging participants to train for and complete a 5 km run. No prior running experience is required.
The program aims to create an empowering environment that encourages physical activity while developing life skills such as goal setting. It is designed to enhance self-confidence and cultivate peer friendships.
The program runs for 12 weeks from April to June at nine community centres in Hamilton. Participants and female volunteer coaches meet once a week for 90 minutes. There are also three to four events on different weekends throughout the program, with transportation provided.
Participants receive a new pair of quality running shoes, healthy snacks, a FAB t-shirt, and free entry and transportation to all program events and races. There is no cost to register or participate.
Eligibility
Registration is open to any individual whose gender identity and/or sex is female in grades 6-8, living within three kilometres of one of the program locations. Priority is given to returning participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
