MLK Jr. Freedom Run 5K/10K/13.1 SAN DIEGO
The MLK Jr. Freedom Run takes place on January 16, 2027 at Liberty Station in San Diego. The event marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day and frames the run as a community observance of his legacy and commitment to justice and equality.
Multiple race options are offered in person and virtually. In-person participation uses a wave system with a cap per wave and waves are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Timing is optional; participants may record time with an app and submit results or request coordinator assistance. No timing chips are used.
Swag is shipped to the mailing address provided during registration for US addresses. Participants receive a running T-shirt, a finisher towel or giveaway, a finisher medal, a digital training pack, online results and a certificate of completion, and an invitation to join local running clubs. A technical running shirt upgrade is available for an additional fee.
Packet pickup is not required because swag is mailed; race bibs are provided on race day. A virtual run option includes a training pack with digital tools and allows submission of results to receive a medal. The event notes a charity initiative that donates one dollar for each mile logged after the race to partner charities.
