MLK Jr. Freedom Run 2027
The MLK Jr. Freedom Run is an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day running event held in Decatur, Georgia, on the South Peachtree Creek Trail. The event is presented as a smaller, capped group run that aims to honor Dr. King’s legacy and support community fitness.
The event offers multiple distance options:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half marathon (13.1)
- Virtual run
- Family 1 mile fun run
The in-person event uses wave starts with a limited number of participants per wave; waves close when they fill. A virtual run option is available that includes a digital training pack and a medal award after results submission. Timing is optional: participants may track time with a running app and submit results for online posting. The event does not use timing chips.
Participant items are shipped to the participant’s U.S. mailing address and include a running T-shirt, a finisher’s towel or giveaway, a finisher’s medal, and a digital training pack. An online results page and a certificate of completion are provided. There is an optional upgrade to a technical running shirt for an additional fee. Race bibs are provided on race day and final event details and course maps are distributed by email the week before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
