Tauranga City to Surf, Tauranga : Sunday 08 November 2026
The Mitre 10 Mega Tauranga City to Surf is a multi-distance running event held in Tauranga and finishing on the sand at Mount Main Beach. Course layouts were revised for 2026 because access to the Mauao base track is currently prohibited; the historic 11km route is shortened to 8.5km until access is restored, while the half marathon and 5km maintain their distances with altered routes. Updated course maps and descriptions are available from the organiser.
Distances
- 21.1 km Half Marathon from Sulphur Point around harbour and estuary, finishes on sand.
- 8.5 km Starts at Sulphur Point, crosses Harbour Bridge, finishes on Mount Main Beach sand.
- 5 km Beach start and finish at Mount Main Beach via boardwalk and hard sand.
Minimum age limits apply: 21.1 km competitors must be 16 years or older, 8.5 km competitors 12 years or older, and 5 km competitors 5 years or older. A one-way shuttle operates from the Mount Surf Club to the start for half and 8.5 km competitors for a fee; gear bags are transported to the finish. Aid stations provide water and electrolyte at specified kilometre points on each course, and toilets are located at start lines, the finish and along the route. All finishers receive a medal; merit prizes are awarded to the top three males and females in each event, and spot prizes are drawn at prize giving on the beach outside the Mount Surf Club.
