About the race
The Mitre 10 Mega Tauranga City to Surf is a running event in Tauranga offering three distances: a 21.1 km half marathon, an 8.5 km City to Surf (shortened from the historic 11 km for 2026), and a 5 km Surf to Surf beach run. Course changes for 2026 were made because access to the Mauao base track is currently prohibited; updated course maps and descriptions reflect those changes. All events finish on the sand at Mount Main Beach outside the Mount Surf Club.
Start locations and general course notes:
- 21.1 km starts at Sulphur Point/Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club.
- 8.5 km starts at Sulphur Point/Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club.
- 5 km starts and finishes on Mount Main Beach.
Minimum age requirements apply: 16+ for the half marathon, 12+ for the 8.5 km, and 5+ for the 5 km. A one-way shuttle service is available to the half marathon and 8.5 km start for an additional $10; competitors may leave gear bags for transport to the finish. Aid stations supply water and R-line electrolyte at specified kilometre points on each course, and portable toilets are provided at start lines and the finish. Race timing uses a transponder attached to the race number. Team and family entry options, student discounts, and group discounts are offered under set conditions.
