EVES Surfbreaker Triathlon - Mount Maunganui
The EVES Surfbreaker Triathlon is held at Mount Maunganui and has been on the event calendar since 1985. The programme includes an Elite race plus community distances offered on the same day.
Distances:
- Sprint - Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km
- Super Sprint - Swim 375m, Bike 7km, Run 2.5km
- Aquathon - Swim 750m, Run 5km
Course notes describe ocean swims with beach starts and left-hand turns around buoys. The Sprint swim is two laps of a 375m triangular course; athletes exit to the beach between laps then return to the water. Bike sections use Marine Parade with marked turnarounds at local streets and laps as specified for each distance. Run legs follow Marine Parade with a final approximately 800m beach run to the finish.
Race format details include a draft-legal Sprint, team relay options for two or three members with transponder exchanges at the bike rack, and rules such as helmet use for cycling, covered shoes on the run, and prohibition of personal listening devices on course. Race packs include a race number and timing transponder; a lost transponder incurs a $50 charge. Late entries incur a $20 fee and entry transfers may be possible with an administrative fee. Finisher medals are awarded for participants and podium medals are given across age and category divisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
