Rockys Backyard Ultra - Omanawa (III Edition)
Rockys Backyard Ultra is an hourly loop endurance event held at McLaren Falls in the Tauranga hinterland. Competitors run a repeated loop of 6.71 km and must return to basecamp before the next hour begins; the event continues until only one runner completes a loop alone. Each lap contains more than 140 metres of elevation gain and the course passes through native New Zealand bush, past waterfalls and along lake edges, with glowworms visible on later laps.
The event is self-supported, so runners bring their own supplies, but basecamp provides water, electrolytes, snacks, real food, and sponsor-supported items between laps. Between loops participants may use the remaining time to rest, eat, pace, or prepare for the next hour.
Entries are limited and sold with tiered pricing. Every registered entrant receives the official Rockys III Edition neck gaiter designed for wet and cold trail conditions; it may be worn in various ways including as a buff, neck tube, or sweat rag. The format places emphasis on personal endurance and mental resilience: all competitors run the same loop on the same clock, and the result is determined by who can continue the longest.
