Swaledale Marathon
The Swaledale Marathon is an annual event organized by the Swaledale Outdoor Club, with a history dating back to 1979. This event is a fell run and challenge walk that takes participants through the scenery of Swaledale. The course is approximately 24 miles long and starts from the Fremington Sunday School in Reeth.
Participants are responsible for their own navigation throughout the route. There is a time limit for completion, as all competitors must finish the course within 10 hours. The event is open to individuals aged 14 and older. According to the event rules, participants between the ages of 14 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult for the entire duration of the course.
The event follows specific regulations to ensure a safe environment for all participants. No dogs are allowed on the course. The income generated from the event is used to support the operations of the Swaledale Outdoor Club, which is a non-profit organization, after all associated costs and charitable donations have been settled.
