Tough Mutter
Tough Mutter is an outdoor obstacle course event held on Aske estate just outside Richmond, North Yorkshire, adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The event offers courses with obstacles designed for people and for people with dogs. Obstacles are marked to show whether a dog may accompany the participant, whether the obstacle is for the person only, or whether the team can decide. Each obstacle has a tie up point to secure a dog while the person completes the element.
The routes run off road through marsh, bog, woodland and rough hilly ground, and they include tracks and fields with numerous fixed obstacles. Obstacles are large, often composed of more than one component, and require climbing, jumping, wading, swinging and crawling. Obstacles are distributed evenly and tightly around the courses. At the end of each route there is an 850 metre assault section of deep mud and water with more than 24 obstacles to negotiate on the way to the finish.
Available course options include:
- 5 km: minimum 38 obstacles
- 10 km: minimum 53 obstacles
Age rules are specified by course. The event minimum age is 12. Children aged 12 to 18 may enter certain child-only distances; children aged 12 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult for those entries, while ages 16 to 18 can enter the 10 km child course without a dog.
