The Wensleydale Wedge
The Wensleydale Wedge is a winter challenge covering 24 miles over public rights of way in North Yorkshire. The event has a 10 hour time limit and includes a cut off at Carperby set for 4pm. Participants must self-navigate as there is no route description provided.
Entrants are asked to carry navigational and safety equipment: OS Outdoor Leisure Sheet 30 (map), compass, whistle, waterproof jacket and over-trousers, first aid kit, survival bag or blanket, head torch, emergency rations and a mug. The route includes multiple checkpoints offering refreshments at some locations and self-clip checkpoints at others.
Entry is limited to 130 places and the minimum age is 16 on the event date. Entries open initially to LDWA members, with general entries scheduled to open on 1 October at 10am. Entry fees are listed separately for members and non-members. Included with entry are a certificate, refreshments at some checkpoints, and a hot meal at the finish with a vegan option available if advised in advance.
The event base is Bainbridge Village Hall. Parking in Bainbridge is limited; event parking is arranged a little way along the road between Askrigg and Bainbridge with marshals directing vehicles. Dogs are not allowed. Participants should allow time for parking and arrival at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
