The Wensleydale Wedge
The Wensleydale Wedge is a winter challenge walk covering 24 miles over public rights of way. The event has a 10 hour overall time limit and a 4pm cut-off at the Carperby checkpoint. Self-navigation is required and there is no route description provided.
The event starts and finishes at Bainbridge Village Hall and uses multiple checkpoints around Wensleydale, including Semerwater Bridge, Thoralby village hall, Castle Bolton car park and Carperby Village Institute. Some checkpoints offer refreshments and there is a hot meal at the finish with a vegan option; entrants should advise organisers beforehand of any allergies. Certain checkpoints are self-clip.
Entry is limited to 130 places; the event operates a waiting list when full. The minimum age is 16. Entry fees were listed as £12 for LDWA members and £16 for non-members. Parking in Bainbridge is limited; event parking is available a short distance along the road between Askrigg and Bainbridge with marshalls directing.
Recommended equipment includes an OS Outdoor Leisure Sheet 30 map, compass, whistle, waterproof jacket and over-trousers, first-aid kit, survival bag or blanket, head torch, emergency rations and a mug for use on the event.
