The Wensleydale Wedge
The Wensleydale Wedge is a 24 mile winter challenge starting and finishing at Bainbridge Village Hall. The route is to be completed within a 10 hour limit and includes a Carperby cut off at 4pm. The event uses public rights of way and requires self-navigation; there is no route description provided.
Entrants are advised to carry appropriate navigation and safety equipment. Recommended items include OS Outdoor Leisure Sheet 30, a whistle, compass, waterproof jacket and over-trousers, a first-aid kit, a survival bag or blanket, a head torch, emergency rations and a mug. Some checkpoints offer refreshments, and a hot meal with a vegan option is provided at the finish; participants should notify organisers in advance of any allergies.
The course passes a sequence of checkpoints and locations in the Wensleydale area, including Semerwater Bridge, Thoralby village hall, Carperby Village Institute and Castle Bolton car park, returning to Bainbridge. Parking in Bainbridge is limited; designated event parking is available a short distance along the road between Askrigg and Bainbridge and marshals will direct parking.
Entry is limited to 130 participants. The minimum age for entry is 16. Entries can close early if the limit is reached. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
