Sussex Downs Trail Run
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park, starting from Plumpton Racecourse in Mid-Sussex. The venue is described as well equipped and is reachable from Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27 and A23.
There are three route options:
- 21.3 km Half Marathon route
- 15.5 km Trail route
- 10.8 km Short trail route
Each course begins with a flattish 3.5 km tree-lined section before a sustained climb to the South Downs Way. The climb gives wide views over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea views. The routes include a visually rewarding loop on sturdy trails towards Brighton, a return to the South Downs Way, a descent from the hilltop and a flat final 3 km to the finish.
Event services include chip timing, a finishers medal, a finisher goodie and a refreshing drink, a personalised certificate, first aid cover, on-course water stations and marshals. The event operates a plastic free approach and requests participants bring a reusable cup or bottle. The course is marked with pink arrows and pink tape; hazards and road junctions are signed with caution notices.
The organiser notes encouragement of new runners and provides varied distances to choose from. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
