Sussex Downs Trail Run : Plumpton Racecourse, Mid-Sussex
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park and is based at Plumpton Racecourse, situated at the foot of the South Downs. The venue is within reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27 and A23.
There are three route options:
- 21.3 km Half Marathon route
- 15.5 km Trail Run
- 10.8 km Trail Run
Each course begins with a flattish 3.5 km tree-lined section. Runners then climb to the South Downs Way, where the route offers views over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea vistas. From the high ground the routes follow sturdy trails toward Brighton before returning to the South Downs Way, then descend from the hilltop and finish with a flat final 3 km section.
Event services include chip timing, on-course water stations and refreshments, first aid cover, marshals and clear signage. Finishers receive a metal medal, a refreshing drink, a finisher goodie and a personalised certificate. The organiser states that new runners are actively encouraged and that courses are marked using pink arrows and tape. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
