Event Overview

The St. Veronica 6k Run/Walk for Scholarships is an annual athletic event held to support the St. Veronica Kwanzaa Ministry Scholarship program. The event takes place at the Vollmer Road Trails in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Participants utilize the paved trails within the Cook County Forest Preserve Vollmer Grove Trail system.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 6k Run: A 3.71 mile timed event on a loop course for competitive runners.
  • 2k Walk: A 1.3 mile non-competitive option for participants of various fitness levels.

Course and Logistics

The course consists of a paved trail that is stroller-friendly and open to dogs on leashes. Participants must complete the course within a 90-minute time limit. The event provides chip-timing for accurate results and a well-marked course. Parking is available at the start area, with an overflow lot situated off Flossmoor Road approximately 1 mile from the start. The Olympia Fields Metra station, located on the Metra Electric line, is approximately 2 miles from the event location.

Awards and Recognition

Medals are awarded to the top three overall finishers. Additionally, awards are provided to the top three finishers in several age groups, ranging from 14 and under to 70 and older. Participants who register by the early bird deadline receive a commemorative T-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
